Of the Land

"Of the Land" is an ongoing series of landscape paintings rooted in my experiences of being in and moving through the natural world. The work draws from places I have encountered while traveling throughout the United States, as well as periods of more intentional immersion in nature, including my recent artist residency in Idaho’s Lost River Mountain Range.
I’m particularly inspired by the shifting qualities of natural environments, like the way light changes across a mountain, the atmosphere before and after a storm, or the unexpected color found in native plants and wild landscapes. Working from my own photographs and direct observation, I use heightened color, expressive brushwork, and layered textures to translate these experiences into paintings.
The series reflects my deep appreciation for the natural world and my interest in encouraging a closer look at the landscapes we're home to. Rather than simply documenting a place, these paintings explore the feeling of being there.
